Solve environmental challenges for the benefit of humanity and the planet
According to the World Economic Forum, water is one of the most important challenges of our time. More than 2 billion people worldwide face water scarcity. Meanwhile, 70% of the world’s freshwater resources are used for agriculture, yet nearly 333 million people still suffer from severe food insecurity, unsure when and how they will get their next meal. At the same time, nearly 40% of all food produced globally is wasted, contributing to 6–10% of global carbon emissions.
Ending hunger, providing clean fresh water and sanitation, and mitigating climate change are key pillars of the United Nations Vision 2030. DG TAKANO addresses these challenges through innovative technology and design thinking, seamlessly blending comfort and sustainability.
Our water-saving solutions and self-cleaning tableware (eliminating the need for detergents) integrate perfectly into zero-waste circular farming systems, achieving, Up to 99% water savings, 100% recycling of food waste and gray water as fertilizer, biofeed, or biogas.
Food Waste
Every year, up to 2.5 billion tons of food are wasted globally, accounting for approximately 40% of total global food production and contributing to 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Food waste alone produces nearly twice the annual CO₂ emissions of all European and American cars combined. We tackle this problem head-on, converting 100% of food scraps and kitchen wastewater into agricultural feed or bioenergy. With our solutions, this global problem can be completely solved.
Food Shortage
Around 2.4 billion people globally, nearly 30% of the population, face moderate to severe food insecurity. While new permaculture techniques are improving crop yields, water and nutrients remain key to growing crops. Our system reuses 100% of food waste and wastewater from the kitchen for sustainable, local agriculture. This solution enables low-cost food production, even in desert areas.
Nitrogen Cycle
The Green Revolution successfully averted a food crisis by increasing crop yields through ammonia fertilizers. However, the extensive use of such fertilizers has nearly doubled the total amount of fixed nitrogen in the environment, further exacerbating: The greenhouse effect, Ozone layer depletion, Smog, acid rain, and water pollution.
Cycle Reset Solution
By converting food waste into agricultural resources, we completely eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers. This solution addresses the root cause of the problem, allowing the natural nitrogen cycle to be restored.
Ocean Pollution
All food residues, including grease, are rinsed with clean water only, which significantly reduces the accumulation of detergents in public waters and minimizes their impact on marine ecosystems. Our solution also reuses 100% of food waste in agriculture, thereby restoring the nitrogen cycle and reducing ocean pollution caused by agriculture.
Water Shortage
We hold the No. 1 market share in Japan and are trusted by over 42,000 customers, including: 80% of major restaurant chains, 50% of supermarkets, Nuclear power plants, The Japanese military
The water saved by our customers each year is equivalent to Osaka City’s total water consumption for one month. In addition, mosques and prayer rooms in Saudi Arabia save 80% of water through our systems.
Energy & Carbon Emissions
Each liter of water requires energy to be purified, transported, heated, and delivered to homes. One cubic meter of water produces approximately 235 grams of carbon dioxide. Therefore, saving water also reduces fundamental energy consumption, thereby lowering CO₂ emissions.
Rebuilding the world with design thinking
Since our founding in 2008, we have been dedicated to identifying fundamental challenges, determining the right direction, and breaking away from conventional concepts. The "DG" in DG TAKANO originates from our original company name, "Designers Guild."
Designers Guild is a collective of individuals committed to designing their own lives, future, and society. Through design thinking, they develop innovative solutions. Rather than following a traditional pyramid structure, it operates as a collaborative system, similar to a trade union, built on the principle of shared creativity.
This approach brings together professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds, assembling the right team for each project. By communicating openly and thinking beyond conventional frameworks, we spark new ideas and innovations. While respecting each individual’s perspective, we collaborate as a team to create the best possible products.
Harnessing Knowledge and Innovation for a Thriving Future Between Humanity and the Earth.
One of the world’s greatest challenges is ensuring the coexistence and shared prosperity of humanity and the Earth.
We believe in not only coexisting but also continuously innovating and evolving through human ingenuity to achieve a future where we thrive in harmony with the planet.
By leveraging the power of design thinking, uniting diverse forces, and focusing on the core essence of challenges, we strive to address environmental issues and social challenges in one decisive step—all while driving innovative growth.
Together, we will shape a new era where sustainability and progress go hand in hand.
